A Focus on Insurance Defence Litigation
Profile:
Katie's extensive litigation experience includes representation of various institutional clients in a wide variety of matters including motor vehicle tort claims, insurance coverage disputes, property damage claims, subrogation and occupiers’ liability claims. She has successfully represented clients and their interests at all levels of court in Ontario, as well as various administrative tribunals. In addition to her insurance work, Katie has experience in employment law, construction law and general corporate-commercial matters.
One reported decision of Katie's to note is the precedent-setting tribunal case of Kulaveerasingam v. State Farm in which she successfully argued that the interest rate applicable to overdue benefits payments for “transitional policies” under the SABS was 1% compounded monthly rather than 2%.
Operating out of both the GTA and Southwestern Ontario, Katie is able to cost-effectively handle cases all throughout Ontario. Katie’s litigation experience and sensible approach to advocacy ensure clients receive timely and efficient legal services.
Outside of the office, Katie enjoys hot yoga, cooking, photography, and spending time at her family cottage. She can also be found walking the Blair Trails with her husband and her Boston terriers, Murphy and Ted.
