A Focus on Insurance Defence Litigation
Katie's extensive experience in litigation defence includes representation of various insurers in a wide variety of matters including motor vehicle tort claims, accident benefits claims, disputes between insurers including loss transfer and priority claims, insurance coverage disputes, property damage claims, subrogation and occupiers’ liability claims. She has successfully represented clients and their interests at all levels of court in Ontario, as well as various administrative tribunals.
One reported decision of Katie's to note is the recent precedent setting case of Kulaveerasingam v. State Farm in which she successfully argued that the interest rate applicable to overdue benefits payments for “transitional policies” under the SABS was 1% compounded monthly rather than 2%.
Operating out of both Toronto and the Waterloo Region, Katie is able to cost-effectively handle cases in all of Southern and Southwestern Ontario. Katie’s litigation experience and sensible approach to advocacy ensure clients receive timely and cost-effective service.
Outside of the office Katie enjoys hot yoga, cooking, photography and supporting her beloved Toronto Blue Jays. She can also be found walking the Blair Trails with her husband and her Boston terrier, Murphy.
